Chandigarh, July 24, Channel88 News (Bureau):- Road mishaps in Haryana came down to 733 in June 2020, witnessing a 17.64 percent fall, as compared to 890 in corresponding period of 2019. From about 30 daily cases of mishaps reported in 2019, the number fell down to 24 in 2020.
Giving this information here today, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Mr Navdeep Singh Virk said that State Police has been constantly putting brakes on road accidents in the state. While the incidents of injuries to persons saw a decrease of 15.30 per cent, the road fatalities witnessed an impressive dip of 20.04 per cent during the similar period. He said the number of road accidents, fatalities and injuries to persons reported between January and June 2020 also came down by 26.71 per cent, 26.77 per cent and 26.88 per cent respectively.
However, COVID-19 lockdown (March 24 to May 31) also contributed to putting brakes on road mishaps, but the comparative figures of both June month as well as first half of 2020 have clearly indicated that we are moving in a safer lane in terms of road and traffic safety. This has been possible with proper monitoring, implementation of road safety laws together with quick response time by our field units, added Mr Virk.
Sharing the official figures, he said that the number of road mishaps in June 2020 came down to 733 from 890 in 2019, showing a fall of 157 cases. The incidents of casualties also saw an impressive decline of 86 cases, from 429 in 2019 to 343 in 2020.
Similarly, incidents of injuries to persons fall by 114 cases. In total, 631 cases of injuries to persons were reported in June 2020 as compared to 746 last year.
We are heading towards achieving the objective of reducing fatalities and serious injuries to minimum in future with new tech based innovations and advanced safety measures in consultation with different stakeholders and road safety experts. At the same time, our police teams are keeping a close eye on traffic violations which are major causes of accidents, added Mr Virk.
