40 compactors are being constructed to make garbage free Ludhiana
LUDHIANA, November 13, Channel88 News (Bureau):- Complying with the guidelines of National Green Tribunal (NGT) and Solid Waste Management rules, a total of 40 garbage compactors are being set up in the city to make the city garbage free.
Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu on Friday, inaugurated the first Portable Compactor Transfer Station at Block-J of Sarabha Nagar on the occasion of Diwali. Municipal Commissioner Ludhiana Pradeep Sabharwal, Councillor Mamta Ashu, Joint Commissioner Swati Tiwana, Secretary-cum-Zonal Commissioner Zone-C Neeraj Jain among other prominent persons were present on the occasion.
Divulging the details, Mayor Sandhu said that a total of 40 compactors comprising 22 during the first phase, five during the second phase while 13 will be set up by the Ludhiana Improvement Trust.
Municipal Commissioner said that at present there are some secondary points in Ludhiana city including Mushtaq Ganj, Book Bazaar, backside Lord Mahavir Hospital, backside Blind School, Civil Hospital, Field Ganj, opposite to petrol pump at Tikona Park, opposite Military Camp and Jawahar Nagar near Midha Check etc.
He said that the main objective of these compactors were to transfer the waste directly from vehicle to vehicle and free the city from the secondary points. He said that efforts are being made by the Improvement Trust to complete the construction of compactors by December 22, 2020. He said that these compactors would also help in improving the rank in Swachh Survekshan.
Commissioner Pradeep Sabharwal said that the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana aims to make the city litter free, clean and green.
