DC reviews working of Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
Ludhiana, February 23: (Bureau) Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney on Thursday chaired a meeting to review the functioning of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in her office. The Deputy Commissioner discussed the detailed agenda of the meeting and issues in implementation of various guidelines for prevention of cruelty to animals. The proposals of constructing an OT in Animal Birth Control centre, deployment of vet doctors, adequate equipment, regular supply of medicines, appointment of cow catchers, funds for managing recurring expenses and others were elaborately reviewed. She also emphasized the need for industries to ensure activities under Corporate Social Responsibility for animal welfare. During the meeting, DC also directed EOs of MCs, that any animal and bird if in need of medical help must be shifted to nearest veterinary hospital. She also asked the police department to appoint nodal officers for addressing the issues of strays effectively and promptly. She said that the aim of the society was to work for the welfare of all types of animals and provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the district. The meeting was attended by ADC Major Amit Sareen and other members of the society.
