SAD demands registration of case and arrest of Simarjeet Bains for raping and sexually exploiting a widow

Say case was not being registered due to pressure from Ashu who was a close chum of Bains

Maheshinder S Grewal and Sharanjeet S Dhillon also ask AAP to explain its silence in the case

Ludhiana, November 18, Channel88 News (Bureau):- The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today demanded immediate registration of a case and arrest of Lok Insaaf Party leader and Atam Nagar legislator Simarjeet Singh Bains for raping and sexually exploiting a widow who had approached him for help.

Addressing a press conference here, senior SAD leaders Maheshinder Singh Grewal and Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said the Ludhiana police should follow Supreme Court guidelines and register a case and start investigation into the matter instead of marking an inquiry into it. “An inquiry can only be conducted prior to registration of the case, not after it”.

Both Mr Maheshinder Grewal and Mr Sharanjit Dhillon said the rape accused Simarjeet Bains was a close chum of Food and Civil Supplies minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu and through him was also being sheltered by chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh. “The Congress has also been trying to woo the Bains brothers and co-opt them into the party“. They said it was because of this reason that a rape case was not being registered against Bains. “It seems the Congress government is giving time to Bains to cow down the victim family and affect a compromise”.

The SAD leaders also lambasted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for keeping quiet on the issue. They said it was shocking that a party which was fond of talking about morality and ethics in public life was supporting a rape accused simply because Simarjeet Bains had formed an alliance with the AAP during the last assembly elections.

The SAD leaders, including Mr Harish Rai Dhandha, Manpreet Singh Ayali and Darshan Singh Shiwalik also demanded action against Simarjeet Bain’s elder brother Karamjit Bains who was intimidating the victim and had even visited her house besides ensuring safety and security of the victim family. They also demanded registration of cases against all others who had assisted Simarjeet Bains in sexually exploiting the victim.

The SAD made it clear that it would not allow the Ludhiana police and the Congress dispensation to dilute the case against the culprit legislator under any circumstances. “We will launch an agitation if justice is not delivered to the victim family and the law is not allowed to take its due course in this case”, the leaders added.
