DC reviews flood protection measures to tackle exigency
Ludhiana, February 14- (Bureau) Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney on Tuesday reviewed the flood control arrangements and directed the officials to complete all works timely to address any kind of exigency arises due to flood-like situation in the monsoon season.
Sawhney presided over a meeting with the officials from various departments and shared that the flood protection works include cleaning of drains, construction of wire crates to protect Dhussi Bandh, renovation and clearance, distilling, construction of studs, revetment, raising of Dhussi Bandh, and others were planned. The works will be undertaken in areas along the river Sutlej.
The Deputy Commissioner asked the officials present in the meeting to complete these works well in advance so that the administration remains geared up to face any kind of flood-like situation during monsoon, especially during the heavy inflow of water into the river Sutlej. She also emphasized that she would personally monitor these works and strict action would be taken in if any negligence found in the execution and completion of these works. She stressed that the evacuation plan, in case of floods, must be prepared and the sensitive places must be identified along with the safe places where the residents of flood-prone areas would be shifted in case of requirement.
The DC also suggested installation of gauges at various points near Sutlej which can act as advance warning in times of rising level of water
