Khanna (Ludhiana), January 4: (Bureau) Swift action of Khanna Police and District Administration Ludhiana averted a major tragedy when an oil tanker carrying 6000 litres of diesel and 6000 litres of petrol overturned on the National Highway (main GT Road) around 12:30 pm today. Upon coming to know of this accident, Khanna police led by SSP Mrs Amneet Kondal and SDM Mr Baljinder Singh rushed to the spot and handled the situation. SSP Khanna Mrs Amneet Kondal IPS informed that as per preliminary investigations suggest accident took place after the oil tanker, that was coming from Ludhiana side and going towards Mandi Gobindgarh, overturned when its tyre got punctured, the driver lost control and hit the divider. Thankfully both the driver and his associate are out of danger and were discharged from hospital after first aid. The SSP informed that the fire was brought under control with the help of 5-6 fire tenders. She said that after the fire was doused, senior officials of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) were informed, who are assessing whether any damage has been done to the bridge where this accident took place.

Except for heavy vehicles, the traffic was resumed for all kinds of light vehicles few hours after the fire was doused and till the time NHAI officials submit their report regarding damage, heavy vehicles would be routed through an alternate route.
