Ludhiana, April 23:

Ludhiana, April 23, Channel88News (Buero):- Commissioner of Police Mr Rakesh Kumar Agrawal has appealed to the residents not to forward unverified news items to anyone as it can spread fear/panic in the minds of residents. He warned of strict action against any person found guilty of this crime. He informed that six FIRs in this regard have already been registered by the Ludhiana Police against different persons.

Mr Agrawal informed that the Ludhiana Police has registered 344 FIRs in different cases related to violation of curfew/lockdown in the city and 606 persons were arrested. He informed more than 13000 persons were sent to open jails when they were found violating the curfew/lockdown, but were let off after verifying their record and after those persons felt sorry.

He urged the residents when whenever they receive any suspicious message, instead of just forwarding it to some other person, they should instead send it at police control room number 112. He assured that the police would themselves get the message verified and if the message is found to be a rumour, then strict action would be taken against the person who started this message as well as against the group admin. He said that few days back, some persons tried to malign the image of a bread company by claiming that an employee has been found COVID 19 positive. He said that all people should restrict themselves from forwarding such messages that can damage the reputation or business of a person/organisation.

L The Commissioner of Police has also appealed to people to support the ongoing social lockdown/curfew as it is for their own benefit. He said that if people stay indoors, they would contribute in keeping themselves as well as their family members safe from Novel Coronavirus (COVID 19). He said that the Ludhiana Police does not want to enforce strictness on anyone.
