Chandigarh, July 21, Channel88 News (Naveen Bansal):- Haryana Police, in Hisar Range, have recorded an increase of more than 60 per cent FIRs filed under NDPS Act during first six months of 2020 as compared to the same period of 2019. The numbers of persons arrested in this connection had also registered an increase of over 50 per cent.
A strict vigil over the drug-peddlers also led to the recovery of 3003 kg drugs in Hisar Range comprising Hisar, Jind, Sirsa, Fatehabad and Police district Hansi. Giving this information here today, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Mr Navdeep Singh Virk informed that a rise in the number of cases and arrests is due to proactive action of police against the drug-peddlers. It is an indication of our zero tolerance to combat the drug menace by increased vigil on those involved in peddling drugs in the state. “After the Home Minister, Mr Anil Vij has declared a war against drugs, State Police Force under the supervision of DGP Haryana Mr Manoj Yadava has been taking stern action against individuals and groups dealing in narcotics. Now with the establishment of a dedicated Narcotics Bureau, police will be able to further tighten the grip on drug traffickers, added Mr Virk.” He said Hisar Range Police have filed 714 cases under NDPS Act between January and June 2020 as compared to 445 cases in 2019. Similarly, 1113 persons were arrested on the charges of peddling and possession of drugs in 2020. This figure was 739 in 2019. Police have recovered 48.5 kg opium, 2474 kg poppy husk, 25 kg 273 gram charas, 436 kg 50 gram ganja, 20 kg 224 gram heroin and 760 gram smack from the possession of arrested accused during this period. In Hisar district, the narcotics bust this year jumped to 77 from 35 in 2019. Similarly, the arrest in connection with NDPS Act rose to 125 from 59. Police have filed 401 cases and arrested 570 persons in Sirsa district in 2020. While 211 cases were registered last year in which 330 persons were arrested. This year till June, 163 cases were reported in Fatehabad as against the 145 in 2019. The numbers of arrests have also risen to 316 from 271. In Jind, 58 persons were arrested this year by filing 45 cases whereas 40 accused were nabbed in 2019 with filing of 33 cases. In 2020, 28 cases were registered and 44 persons booked in Police district Hansi, whereas 21 cases filed and 39 arrested in 2019.
